Acne & Microdermabrasion Aftercare Instructions

Acne/Microdermabrasion is a no down time facial treatment. There may be mild redness after treatments for a few hours to 48hrs. depending on the treatment depth. Slightly tight feeling skin is common. Hydrate skin often and keep it protected for at least 7 days to help with tightness and healing process.

How to get the best results from microdermabrasion facial treatments with L'AMI:

  • SPF 30+ must be worn daily for one month afterwards. Microdermabrasion removes top protective layer of skin cells, so extra protection is necessary for one month post.

  • Try to only wash with cool or tepid water for the first day after the microdermabrasion treatment while your skin is in the recovery stage.

  • Do not use AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) or Vitamin A products for at least 7 days after treatment.

  • No exposure to sunbeds for one month post treatment

  • No Heat treatments permitted for 48hrs afterwards i.e. sauna, steam room, hot showers, facial waxing

  • No make up application permitted for 48hrs afterwards, with the exception of a mineral make up which can be applied immediately after.

  • No Shaving the face for 48 hours after. No perfumes/aftershaves for 48hrs after

  • Skin may be red for a short while afterwards. Usually take a week for new skin to regenerate.

  • Any impurities under the skin will come to the surface within a short time after the treatment, so a breakout is a good sign of the skin clearing impurities from within.

  • In the rare event that you incur scratches on your skin, post microdermabrasion, apply aloe vera to sooth the skin. The scratches will take about one week to heal.

  • Blocked pores/blackhead’s: For clients with blocked pores, a course of 6-8  microdermabrasion treatments are recommended fortnightly. Glycolic products should be used at home nightly to keep pores clean & to maintain the results of the treatment

  • Do not laser or undergo any hair removal processes on any part of your face 7 days post treatment.

  • Microdermabrasion facial treatments must be at least 7 days apart.

  • Should you experience any redness and/or itchiness apply 1% hydrocortisone over the counter.

As your skin care specialist, we take every precaution to ensure that your skin is well hydrated and calm prior to leaving each session. However, you may experience some dryness or even some peeling between sessions, which is normal. Please feel free to check with us if you have any concerns after the treatment. More sensitive skin may experience some redness after the first couple of sessions. This normally goes away after 2-4 hours.

After your treatment, sunblock must be worn at all times and tanning beds should never be used. You are making an investment in your face: therefore, it is to your benefit to continue to protect it long after your series is completed.
